As many as 48% of the population of this country live at or below the poverty line. Yet, the Trump Administration seeks to define down the number that draws that line. So, rather than an annual gross income of $11,770.00 for a single person, the Administration wants to let the poverty demarcation line fluctuate with the Consumer Price Index.
Why does it matter? Such a change of method would allow the Federal
government to deny thousands of our fellow citizens access
to programs designed to help the poor.
In other words, if you're not destitute, the
Administration thinks you should be on your own.
